The library is available to all academics and scholarship holders of the Institute as well as students of the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC).
All other individuals require permission. This may be granted when an academic interest corresponding to the Institute’s areas of research is demonstrated.
Permission is only granted subsequent to a prior written request and under the condition that sufficient working places are available in the reading room. The request must show the status and perspective duration. Students and doctoral candidates must, in addition, supply a letter of recommendation from their supervising professor, in which the research topic and the necessity for using the library of the Max Planck Institute is shown.
Guest users seeking to use the library for more than one week require the permission of library management.
Day guests may receive permission to use the library under the condition that they demonstrate an academic interest in the usage of the library’s collection and that sufficient working spaces are available in the reading room. In exceptional cases, permission may be granted to view literature otherwise unavailable in Munich. Due to licensing terms, databases and electronic journals as a rule may not be accessed by day guests.
All users who have been granted permission receive access to the library’s entire collection, with the exception of the collection of the Munich Intellectual Property Law Center (MIPLC), which is reserved solely for students in this programm.
All users, prior to their initial visit, must fill out a registration form and confirm receipt of the library’s terms of use. You may print out the registration form here and bring the filled-out form along on your initial visit.
Participation in a library tour is a prerequisite for using the library.
