Munich public ransport

By underground (U-Bahn): Take the underground (lines U3, U6, U4 or U5) to “Odeonsplatz”. Take the exit for “Hofgarten” and walk 5 minutes through the Hofgarten park in the direction of the “Staatskanzlei”. At the end of the Hofgarten park, bear left and follow the road “Hofgartenstraße”. Shortly before the junction of Hofgartenstraße and the ring road “Karl-Scharnagl-Ring” turn right into a pedestrian zone. After approximately 50 meters you will reach the road “Marstallstraße”. Follow Marstallstraße for a few meters until you arrive at the Institute (Marstallstraße 8).

By suburban railway (S-Bahn): Take any suburban train (S-Bahn) to “Marienplatz”. Change there to the underground lines U3 or U6 northbound (direction “Moosach/Garching-Forschungszentrum”) to “Odeonsplatz”, then follow the directions above.

Arrival by train

Munich can be reached via numerous national and international train connections. From Munich Central Station take the underground lines U4 or U5 eastbound (directions “Arabellapark” or “Neuperlach Süd”) to “Odeonsplatz”. Take the exit for “Hofgarten” and walk 5 minutes through the Hofgarten park in the direction of the “Staatskanzlei”. At the end of the Hofgarten park, bear left and follow the road “Hofgartenstraße”. Shortly before the junction of Hofgartenstraße and the ring road “Karl-Scharnagl-Ring” turn right into a pedestrian zone. After approximately 50 meters you will reach the road “Marstallstraße”. Follow Marstallstraße for a few meters until you arrive at the Institute (Marstallstraße 8).

Arrival by car

From any motorway, follow the signs to “Stadtmitte” (city centre) until Altstadt-Ring (a ring road with the segments Oskar-von-Miller-Ring; Von-der-Tann-Str.; Franz-Josef-Strauß-Ring; Karl-Scharnagl-Ring; Thomas-Wimmer-Ring; Frauenstraße; Blumenstraße; Sonnenstraße; Lenbach-/Maximiliansplatz). From Thomas-Wimmer-Ring or Karl-Scharnagl-Ring, turn onto Maximilianstraße in the direction of the city centre. Drive past the Hotel “Vier Jahreszeiten”, then immediately turn right onto Marstallstraße. There are no parking spaces at the Institute.

Arrival by plane

Munich International Airport (MUC) is located approx. 28 km from the city centre. From there, you can travel to the city most easily by taking the suburban railway (S-Bahn) lines S1 or S8, departing from the underground level of the airport. Get off the train at “Marienplatz” and change to the underground lines U3 or U6 northbound (direction “Moosach/Garching-Forschungszentrum”). Get off at “Odeonsplatz”. Take the exit for “Hofgarten” and walk 5 minutes through the Hofgarten park in the direction of the “Staatskanzlei”. At the end of the Hofgarten park, bear left and follow the road “Hofgartenstraße”.
